I have learned that there are 8 reapers in the dunes, 6 in the mountains and 8 in the crash zone. The reason to visit the crash zone is to get to the aurora, but that is a straight path and you only meet one reaper. But it just seems pretty much impossible to explore in the dunes or mountains without getting attacked by a reaper every 10 seconds.
